Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Roller Operator to join our team at Blythe Construction. As a key member of our construction crew, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment to compact and smooth surfaces on various construction sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate roller equipment to compress and compact dirt, aggregate, or blacktop to achieve specified grading and smooth surfaces.
  • Read grade stakes and work with grade checkers, lasers, or GPS to maintain grade.
  • Determine speed and direction of roller based on knowledge of compressible materials to achieve a smooth grade and/or surface.
  • Work closely with other crew members using hand signals to coordinate work and ensure safety.
  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance to ensure roller is in safe, proper working order, including fluid checks and proper lubrication.
  • Report to the shop when roller needs maintenance and repair.
  • Keep roller clean and prepare equipment for transport on flatbed when needed.
  • Maintain orderliness, cleanliness, and safety at the job site.
Requirements
  • Three to five years of industry-related experience, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.
  • Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.
  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site.

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites.
