OVERVIEW:
The role involves assessing and documenting patient progress. You will evaluate and provide treatment for individuals in a hospital environment, addressing a range of diagnoses including neurological, orthopedic, surgical, medical, and complex psychosocial conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct diagnostic assessments to evaluate the severity of patient impairments and predict potential for recovery.
- Interpret assessment results and relevant information to formulate personalized treatment strategies.
- Collect and analyze data from diverse sources to establish specific objectives and plans, revising them as needed.
- Account for individual patient factors such as overall health status, endurance, and motivation when designing treatment programs.
- Select, fit, and instruct patients on the use of suitable assistive devices, adaptive tools, or orthotic supports.
- Prepare necessary electronic documentation, including evaluation outcomes, tailored treatment plans, progress updates, and other relevant reports.
- Engage with healthcare professionals regarding patient advancements, requirements, and discharge planning.
- Ensure efficient, timely, and effective documentation of patient care through electronic systems.
- Provide guidance on therapeutic techniques for patients and their families or caregivers.
- Participate in training sessions for medical staff on therapy methodologies and objectives.
- Oversee physical therapy assistants, aides, and students, in accordance with departmental guidelines and professional standards; delegate treatment tasks appropriately.
- Collaborate with other departments to guarantee comprehensive patient care.
- Work with colleagues across departments to foster continuous improvement in processes.
- Adhere to organizational and departmental safety protocols, confidentiality agreements, values, policies, and standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required; Master's or Doctorate preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Acute Therapy: Preferred experience of one (1) to two (2) years in adult acute therapy; exceptional new graduates with relevant rotations may be considered.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid Physical Therapist license in the state of Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification prior to employment. A fingerprint card may be required in certain departments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Understanding of physical therapy principles to enhance mobility and improve patient outcomes while preventing disability due to illness or injury.
- Familiarity with best practices to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Competence in assessing patient needs and limitations to provide effective assistance.
- Ability to read and interpret professional literature, technical procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Effective listening skills to accurately understand and act on communications from others.
- Problem-solving skills to gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Capability to interpret a wide range of technical instructions and understand both abstract and concrete variables.
