Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Prisoners: Book, fingerprint, photograph, and search inmates, and assign cells and property drawers in accordance with prescribed procedures and laws.
  • Conduct Medical Screening: Screen prisoners for diseases, infections, and other potential medical problems.
  • Prepare Release Papers: Prepare all release papers and computer information upon release of prisoners.
  • Provide Direct Supervision: Supervise prisoners in the City jail, including overseeing inmates' daily activities and ensuring the security of inmates, trustees, and all other jail personnel.
  • Ensure Clean Living Conditions: Ensure clean living conditions for all prisoners, including administering medication, supervising meal preparation, showers, and linen changes.
  • Monitor Inmate Behavior: Monitor the behavior and activities of inmates to ensure that all rules and regulations are being followed and take appropriate disciplinary actions upon the infraction of any rule.
  • Conduct Cell Inspections: Perform thorough cell inspections to search for contraband items such as narcotics, cigarettes, alcohol, weapons, or other materials determined to be of detriment to the authority structure within the jail facility.
  • Assist Warrants Division: Provide assistance to the warrants division as requested, including accurately checking and confirming warrants for dispatch, outside agencies, bonding companies, and private persons.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to Perform Word Processing and Data Entry
  • Valid Driver's License and Ability to Obtain/Maintain City of Hoover Driver's Permit
  • Ability to Pass an Extensive Background Check
  • Possession of a Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
  • One Year of Experience in a Corrections or Detention Environment
  • Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Psychology, or a Closely Related Field
