Situated on a vast 174-acre campus in DeKalb County, Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta is equipped with 300 licensed and accredited inpatient beds, specializing in three primary program areas: Adult Mental Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental Disabilities. The facility also provides both inpatient and outpatient Dental Services.

Position Overview

Job Title: Physician - Board Eligible – Admissions - Hourly - GRHA

Pay Grade: MBE

Role Summary:

Under general supervision, the physician will deliver comprehensive medical services by assessing patients, diagnosing health conditions, and administering appropriate treatments. The role includes directing nursing staff and other personnel in patient care and treatment protocols.

  • May oversee healthcare staff
  • Refers patients to specialists or other healthcare providers as necessary
  • Advises patients on health management, including promotion of wellness and prevention of disease and injury
  • Collaborates with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals
  • Coordinates activities of nursing staff, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical personnel
  • Conducts patient examinations, gathers medical histories, orders laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures, and consults with fellow medical practitioners to assess patients' overall health
  • Prescribes or administers treatments, therapies, medications, vaccinations, and other specialized medical care to manage or prevent illnesses, diseases, or injuries
  • Provides emergency medical assistance as required

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) AND licensure or eligibility to practice medicine at a state institution or within the state of Georgia as mandated by state law. Candidates must be Board Eligible.
  • Compliance with state law requiring a national and state background check as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Experience in managing patients with serious and chronic medical conditions, and in providing care as both a leader and member of an interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Background in working with individuals in adult mental health, substance use disorders, and forensic psychiatry
