Sheet Metal Estimator

Job Summary

As a Sheet Metal Estimator at Century Contractors, you will be responsible for preparing and coordinating the preparation of full estimates on large and complex projects. This involves reviewing and evaluating RFQs, RFPs, and bid documents, developing RFIs for inconsistencies and missing information, and ensuring timely completion of estimates. You will also review estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy, develop pertinent clarifications and exclusions, and review construction documents and understand the scope of work to bid. Additionally, you will execute Quickpen take-offs of construction documents, obtain pricing for materials, and prepare cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and other direct costs incurred for the installation of items. You will also make an estimate where predetermined standards are not available, inform immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted item or computer database, update computer database labor and materials, and develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Key Responsibilities

* Review and evaluate RFQs, RFPs, and bid documents
* Develop RFIs for inconsistencies and missing information in contract documents
* Ensure timely completion of estimates
* Review estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy
* Develop pertinent clarifications and exclusions
* Review construction documents and understand scope of work to bid
* Execute Quickpen take-offs of construction documents
* Obtain pricing for materials
* Prepare cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and other direct costs incurred for the installation of items
* Make an estimate where predetermined standards are not available
* Inform immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted item or computer database
* Update computer database labor and materials
* Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.

Requirements

* 8-10 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and expertise
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as bid front ends, scopes of work, blueprints, safety programs, QA/QC manuals
* Speak effectively before groups of clients or employees
* Knowledge of Quickpen software (or similar estimating systems) is strongly encouraged
* Experience with estimating techniques and cost control
* Ability to perform detailed labor and material take-offs

Working Conditions
