Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Taxpayer Support Specialist to join our team at the Internal Revenue Service. As a Taxpayer Support Specialist, you will provide specialized clerical assistance to Tax Resolution Representatives, Tax Specialists, and other support personnel by assessing taxpayer needs and directing them to the appropriate individual or area. You will also control walk-in area traffic flow and demands, identify and analyze issues impacting the effectiveness of operations, and make suggestions for resolution or correction to improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides specialized clerical assistance to Tax Resolution Representatives, Tax Specialists, and other support personnel
  • Assesses taxpayer needs and directs them to the appropriate individual or area
  • Controls walk-in area traffic flow and demands
  • Identifies and analyzes issues impacting the effectiveness of operations
  • Makes suggestions for resolution or correction to improve efficiency
  • Examines returns, supporting documents, and monetary receipts for completeness and discrepancies
  • Monitors and tracks information for sampling requirements prior to transmission to Submission Processing Centers
  • Makes initial determinations on filing extensions, assigns Employer Identification Numbers, processes Power of Attorney requests, and resolves and assists taxpayers with entry discrepancies at kiosk terminals and inquiries on basic tax law, forms, and IRS services
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check)
  • Must obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel
Qualifications
  • Federal experience is not required
  • One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis
  • Must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement
Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
