Medical Assistant, Neurosurgery Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Neurosurgery team at The University of Kansas Health System. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient flow of patients through our healthcare setting.
Responsibilities:- Facilitate examination and treatment of patients in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service.
- Contribute to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, maintaining supply/equipment inventory, and/or assisting physicians, other medical staff, nurses, other interdisciplinary team members, and support staff.
- Accurately schedule tests, obtain films and reports, and prepare laboratory specimens according to policy.
- Assist physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
- Collaborate with members of the health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care; may record elements of the patient history for clinical staff review.
- Electronically submit, call, and/or fax in prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
- Maintain medical records; ensure all required documentation is available in the medical record; distribute reports and correspondence; file, photocopy, and process forms related to medical charts.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stock assigned areas and ensure par levels of supplies are maintained; check and complete required logs and equipment such as refrigerator logs, eyewash logs, emergency/crash carts, suction, and other required checks.
- Perform clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification of tests, procedures, and medications, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and entering ambulatory care charges.
- Perform simple procedures as directed by the nurse or physician and as defined on the competency checklist.
- Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures and document in medical record.
- High School Graduate
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant or CCMA or NCRMA certification
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
- Preferred Licensure and Certification: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or NCRMA
