Operations Manager Job Description

About the Role:

The Operations Manager is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of operations to achieve production objectives efficiently and effectively. This role ensures the seamless integration of production processes, quality assurance, and team management to drive continuous improvement and meet organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the cost-efficient manufacturing of products to meet quality standards through material preparation, production, finished goods, shipping, maintenance, QA, office support, and delegation to management, team members, and their departments.
  • Manage effective production scheduling through delegation and review.
  • Communicate plant performance and HR/labor relation issues to management.
  • Gauge and manage plant performance by reviewing daily QAD reports, including individual cost center performance, scrap reports, manpower overtime, raw material consumption, and shipping deliveries.
  • Participate in plant safety and environmental requirements with corporate, plant site, and safety committee.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the manufacturing process, including scrap reduction, waste reduction, and productivity improvement.
  • Review and prioritize maintenance and preventative maintenance needs with the Plant Manager; coordinate maintenance projects with outside contractors.
  • Develop and implement plant policies consistent with corporate policies and site demands.
  • Consult with raw material and service vendors and develop Appropriation Requests consistent with the corporate-established RFQ process.
  • Coach and develop employee performance through training, reviews, and discipline.
  • Identify and develop continuous improvements in the process, equipment, manpower, and raw materials.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing
  • 4+ years of upper-level supervision
  • High school diploma
  • Experience in basic mechanical operations
  • Strong lean background
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Higher education in engineering, operations, business management, or other relevant courses
  • QAD experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience in preventive maintenance
  • Experience progressing lean initiatives
