Job Summary:

Operate a tractor trailer semitrailer or combination vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,001 pounds. Key responsibilities include transporting merchandise, supplies, and materials to and from Navy Exchanges, as well as loading and unloading cargo.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate trucks or truck tractors with trailer or semitrailer coupled by means of a turntable fifth wheel or pintle pivot hook.
  • Drive vehicles in all types of weather and traffic, and be exposed to the possibility of serious accidents.
  • Load and unload cargo, ensuring it is properly located, distributed, and secured.
  • Sign for and obtain receipts for cargo, and note any damaged or missing merchandise.
  • Complete pre- and post-trip inspection reports, and perform preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles.
Requirements:
  • Valid state commercial driver's license (CDL) with a class A endorsement for tractor trailers, semitrailers, or combination vehicles.
  • H endorsement on CDL for transporting hazardous materials.
  • Meet Department of Transportation physical and medical requirements.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
Working Conditions:

Work outside and be occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

Physical effort required to turn large and heavy vehicles, operate additional controls, and handle objects weighing up to 40 pounds while loading and unloading cargo.
