The Home Health Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (PTA, LPTA) is responsible for implementing treatment plans and providing exercise guidance and patient education aimed at enhancing the patient's overall health while adhering to the prescribed care plan.
- Accountable for complying with all state-specific regulations governing physical therapy in home care, executing treatments as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist, and performing only those tasks for which they are qualified and trained. Recommendations for adjustments to the care plan should be communicated to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Guides and assists patients in both active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait training, functional activities, activities of daily living (ADL), transfers, safety protocols, and prosthetic training.
- Monitors, documents, and reports to the supervising Physical Therapist, nurse supervisor, and/or physician regarding the patient's response to treatment and any changes in their condition. Collaborates with other healthcare team members as necessary.
- Educates patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members on therapy practices within the scope of the physical therapy assistant's role.
Licensure Requirements
- Must hold a current license, registration, or certification to assist in the practice of physical therapy in the state of employment.
- Current CPR certification is mandatory.
- Possession of a valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation is required.
