Job Summary:The Fleet Mechanic III will perform complex repairs and maintenance tasks on heavy-duty trucks and equipment, requiring advanced mechanical knowledge and skill. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues, as well as work independently or in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform complex preventive maintenance tasks and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
- Investigate malfunctions and breakdowns, and perform repairs as needed.
- Rebuild and install diesel, gasoline, and compressed natural gas engines, and test equipment per technical requirements.
- Identify and determine parts required for repairs of disassembled units.
- Road test fleet vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or ensure they are working properly.
- Respond to service calls and perform field repairs.
- Review and complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
- Perform all work within a reasonable time frame and communicate repair status with management.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles and maintain a clean, safe work area.
- Utilize fleet maintenance software to document and track repair orders and related information.
- Provide technical knowledge training to other mechanics.
- Highly proficient in troubleshooting and computer diagnosis.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret schematics.
- Must be able to diagnose, repair, and work on most facets of heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
- Must have tools to perform maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools.
- Familiarity with using a computer to utilize fleet maintenance software programs.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment and have good decision-making ability.
- At least eight (8) years of advanced-level mechanic experience maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
- Experience and ability to be certified for fall protection.
- Experience and ability to be certified as an operator of a boom lift, scissor lift, and forklift.
- Must possess a valid driver's license, commercial license is preferred.
- Certified Tire Industry Association (TIA) certification is a plus.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Preferred ASE Certifications and/or other Trade School diplomas/certifications.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Work is performed primarily in a shop environment, occasional field environments that may require some travel from site to site, and is frequently exposed to dust, grease, fumes airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
