Wildlife Habitat Group Manager Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wildlife Habitat Group Manager to join our team at the Pennsylvania Game Commission. As a key member of our Northeast Region, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing wildlife habitat projects, game lands maintenance, infrastructure construction, and other projects that promote game and non-game wildlife habitats.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the development of comprehensive plans with other regional forestry and wildlife management staff
  • Determine appropriate habitat management treatments to improve habitat quality
  • Make decisions on mechanical, chemical, prescribe fire, or other practices based upon current science, technology, and policy
  • Perform a full range of supervisory functions, conduct inspections and incident investigations to ensure safety on State Game Lands
  • Prepare and present a wide variety of programs and written material to inform and engage other state agencies, organizations, and the public

Requirements
  • Two years of professional natural resource management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in natural resource management, parks and recreation, biology, forestry, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, wildlife management, or a closely related field
  • Active motor vehicle operator's license
  • Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator certification within the employee probationary period
  • Wildland Type 2 Firefighter (FFT2) training, including successfully completing a Moderate (or Arduous) level Work Capacity Test (WCT) within the employee probationary period

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience planning and implementing wildlife habitat projects
  • Experience with maintenance and construction of roadways, culverts, and other construction experience
  • Experience utilizing herbicides
  • Possession of certificate(s) related to the use of herbicides
  • Additional certifications or licenses that may assist in this position
