Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for providing accurate and timely patient test results for the diagnosis and management of human illness. This position will utilize automation and computerization, as well as manual methods, to ensure quality control and instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The technician will handle various body fluids, including blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, and spinal fluid, while taking necessary precautions to prevent exposure to infectious diseases such as HIV and other blood-borne pathogens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory tests and procedures to analyze patient samples
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including automated analyzers and microscopes
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance of laboratory results
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to provide accurate and timely test results
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with laboratory procedures and technologies

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field
  • Registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent certification
  • Superior customer service skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Experience in an automated clinical laboratory setting

Work Environment:

This position is located in a clinical laboratory setting and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and accuracy. The technician will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow strict safety protocols to prevent exposure to infectious diseases.
