School Nurse Position

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate School Nurse to join our team at Lago Vista Independent School District. As a School Nurse, you will play a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of our students.
Job Summary:The School Nurse will provide direct care to students, assess health problems, communicate with parents, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow-up as needed. You will also serve as a liaison between school personnel, families, healthcare professionals, and the community.
Responsibilities:- Provide direct care to students using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), and established school health protocols.
- Assess student problems, communicate with parents, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow-up as needed.
- Notify parents of accidents or illnesses and secure emergency medical care for students as needed.
- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students.
- Serve as a health advocate for students and ensure that medications are administered according to district policy and procedures.
- Establish and implement effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs.
- May make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary.
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
- Valid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing or from a state participating in the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC).
- Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates.
- Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health concerns, basic first aid, and proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and must maintain emotional control under stress. The position requires exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
