Position Overview
The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and technicians in delivering patient care and treatment. Responsibilities include monitoring hospitalized animals, managing inventory, preparing prescriptions, conducting routine laboratory tests, educating clients about veterinary services, and assisting in surgical procedures.

Essential Duties
- Assist veterinarians in medical and surgical practices.
- Conduct outpatient exams, including taking histories and vital signs, and provide client education.
- Prepare animals for surgery and monitor their vital signs during procedures.
- Collect samples for testing and perform in-house laboratory analyses.
- Take and process radiographs while adhering to safety protocols.
- Handle and restrain animals during examinations.
- Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain cleanliness in exam rooms, treatment areas, and labs; restock supplies as needed.
- Exhibit professionalism and compassion in all client and patient interactions.
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians and team members regarding patient care and client concerns.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a veterinary setting is preferred.
- Ability to lift animals and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds; heavier items may require assistance.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety protocols and proper use of PPE.
- Basic math skills for medication dosage calculations.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including MS Office applications.
- Strong communication skills to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
