Job Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the District's school grounds to ensure a safe and attractive environment for students and staff. This includes landscaping, laying out athletic fields, and performing related duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and Repair: Maintain safe, clean, and attractive school grounds by mowing grass, trimming weeds, cutting trees, planting and fertilizing, repairing paved areas, installing and repairing playground equipment, clearing storm drains, and removing debris.
  • Project Management: Complete projects according to established specifications, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Reporting and Communication: Submit daily maintenance reports and interact and communicate with supervisors, school personnel, and students.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain various equipment and tools with care and safety.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a junior high school diploma with one to two years of groundskeeping experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid state driver's license is also required.

Performance Evaluation Criteria:

Job Knowledge: Has thorough knowledge of Maintenance Services Department procedures, laws, ordinances, and organizational structure. Can work independently, interpret work orders, and maintain effective relationships.

Quality of Work: Maintains high standards of accuracy, communication, and interaction.

Quantity of Work: Performs duties efficiently to meet District standards.

Dependability: Completes work within deadlines and remains accountable.

Attendance: Regularly attends work and follows policies regarding absences and time-off.

Initiative and Enthusiasm: Self-reliant approach, anticipates work, and meets responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Judgment: Exercises analytical judgment, identifies problems, and implements solutions effectively.

Cooperation: Accepts direction, questions for clarification, and contributes to improving cooperation.

Relationships: Shares knowledge, maintains relationships, and handles requests effectively.

Coordination of Work: Plans and organizes work, sets priorities, and implements work activities efficiently.

Safety: Adheres to safety standards, maintains workplace cleanliness, and upholds regulations.

Terms of Employment: 245-day work agreement with salary and work year established by the district. Florence 1 Schools is an equal opportunity employer.
