As a Senior Associate Application Engineer, you will design and deploy dependable software systems at scale. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will develop and sustain comprehensive solutions that align with our business objectives. Your comprehensive understanding of all products and their interrelations will enable you to craft sophisticated solutions and plan the future of our extensive technical ecosystem. By innovating independently and promoting best practices, you will tackle intricate challenges and lead the team in executing solutions from inception to deployment. You will also manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues as part of your daily responsibilities.

As an Engineer on the Digital Payments team, your focus will be on modernizing digital payment systems aimed at reducing fraud and safeguarding all participants within the payment ecosystem, including Discover's customers. You will create and implement reliable software systems at scale. Collaborating with enterprise-wide teams, you will develop and maintain comprehensive solutions that meet our business needs. Your holistic perspective on all products and their interactions will help you design refined solutions and strategize the future of our broader technical ecosystem. By innovating independently and advocating for best practices, you will resolve complex issues and guide the team in implementing solutions from inception to production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently complete most features and user stories, including test cases and automation.
  • Acquire knowledge of advanced software engineering practices such as domain-driven design, test-driven development, operations, and security.
  • Contribute to agile ceremonies, lead demonstrations and presentations, assist new engineers in learning established practices, and engage in technology communities.
  • Participate in system design decisions and understand how these choices affect the overall product.
  • Learn to support production systems and comprehend how observed events and failures impact the product.

Minimum Qualifications:

At a minimum, we require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related area.
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of advanced beginner on the Dreyfus engineering scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Experience with the technical stack including Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Spring, Postgres, Oracle, and TomCat.
  • Hands-on experience in a cloud-based environment, specifically AWS.
  • Experience with container implementation, ideally using Docker, as well as CI/CD pipeline experience.

Compensation:

The base salary for this position typically ranges between $71,500.00 to $121,000. Additional incentives may be included as part of a competitive total compensation package. Factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may influence the pay for this position.
