Your Role as a Special Education Teacher

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to students' unique needs.
  • Creating engaging lesson plans that align with Virginia state assessments and curriculum standards.
  • Using evidence-based practices and applied behavior analysis strategies to support students' learning and behavior.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to develop positive behavior support plans and ensure seamless communication among students, parents, and staff.
  • Providing regular progress updates to parents and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Certification by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) with endorsement in special education or adaptive curriculum, or certification in another state.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and ability to work with students with diverse needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
