We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Care Technician to join our team at Western State Hospital. As a Psychiatric Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing direct care to patients with serious mental illnesses, substance abuse issues, and/or intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide recovery-oriented direct care in a hospital setting, working under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Support and motivate patients to engage in their individualized treatment plans.
- Deliver treatment programs to individuals and groups, including activities of daily living (ADLs), feeding, cleaning, and providing one-on-one direct observation.
- Use de-escalation techniques to manage client behavior and milieu.
Requirements:
- Ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe patient behavior.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in the English language.
- Ability to observe, report, and document changes in patients' mental, physical, and behavioral status.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to maintain all required orientation and annual competencies.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, and patients from varied backgrounds.
- Ability to recognize the need and ask for help or assistance in providing care and treatment.
- Ability to give and receive effective feedback and perform as a member of a team.
- Ability to administer CPR and perform TO-approved physical interventions.
- Ability to work overtime hours, rotating weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to use email and electronic health records.
