Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality nursing care to patients in the Cardiovascular ICU.
  • Utilizing a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar setting.
  • Maintaining an active California nursing license.
  • Providing care for patients immediately following cardiac surgery, with a preference for candidates who have this experience.
  • Interpreting EKG strips accurately.
  • Performing common procedures such as chest tube insertion, intubation, and emergency sternotomies.
Work Schedule

This position involves:

  • 12-hour shifts, starting at 6:45 AM.
  • Bedside reporting.
  • Opportunities for overtime and additional shifts.
  • Self-scheduling, with schedules available four weeks in advance.
  • Access to schedules from home.
  • Floating between the Medical ICU and Cardiac Surgery ICU as needed.
Unit Specifics

Key details about the unit include:

  • Patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:1 to 2, with specific considerations for IABP cases.
  • Charge nurses typically do not take on patient loads but provide break relief.
  • No nurse aides are available on the unit.
  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.
  • Holiday rotations with core staff.
  • Uniform color: Navy, with under shirts in navy, white, or black.
  • Ventilator support is available 24/7.
  • Common patient diagnoses include AMI, AVR, MVR, respiratory failure, renal failure, IABP, CRRT, and therapeutic hypothermia.
  • Orientation on the floor will last 1 to 2 days with a preceptor.
Additional Information

Before starting the assignment, candidates must complete required modules, which typically take 3-4 hours. The hiring manager reserves the right to rescind the offer within 24 hours if necessary. A Dysrhythmia Exam (Basic) through INA must be submitted with acceptance.
