Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Elementary ESL Teacher to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. As an Elementary ESL Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality education to students who require English language support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Student Assessment and Support: Determine the specific English language needs of students and develop tailored support plans to help them achieve their academic goals.
  • Instructional Delivery: Provide instruction in English language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening, to students at various levels of proficiency.
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure that students receive comprehensive support and services.
  • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices in English language instruction and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in English as a Second Language (ESL) or a related field, and a valid teaching certification or license.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Reasoning Ability: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret instructions and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: The Elementary ESL Teacher will work in a school setting, interacting with students, teachers, and other staff members on a regular basis.
  • Physical Demands: The position requires standing, walking, and moving around the classroom and school building, as well as lifting and carrying educational materials and equipment.
