Position Overview:
At Near North Montessori School, we are privileged to have dedicated, full-time substitute teacher aides who serve as essential support during the academic day, assisting our students, educators, and classrooms.
We are looking for individuals who are available to join our team for the upcoming school year. This role is full-time and comes with benefits.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, with working hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the potential for additional hours as required.
Paid time off is provided during school breaks and holidays as outlined in the school calendar.
Role Responsibilities:
The substitute teacher aide primarily supports students, teachers, and classrooms at the upper elementary level (grades 4 to 6) during faculty absences or when extra assistance is needed.
Key duties include:
- Collaborating closely with the Academic Coach to develop a daily and weekly plan based on anticipated and unanticipated absences or schedule modifications.
- Assisting with classroom activities and lessons while working in harmony with other classroom educators to uphold classroom regulations.
- Guiding students in completing assigned tasks and managing classroom behavior and social interactions.
- Maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment.
- Regularly reviewing student information, emergency protocols, lesson plans, and programming with faculty and supervisors.
- Supervising and guiding students during transitions, recess, arrival, and dismissal to ensure safe and respectful movement.
- Communicating observations about students to teaching teams to collaboratively address their needs.
- Providing childcare for students on in-service days, conference days, and other designated working days.
- Participating in end-of-year overnight trips, closely collaborating with faculty and students for a week of outdoor learning experiences.
- Other responsibilities as needed based on the age group and school requirements.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree and have prior experience working with elementary-aged children, ideally in an educational setting; Montessori experience is advantageous.
We seek reliable, adaptable individuals who can provide high-quality support to both adults and children, with demonstrated skills in fostering a diverse student population and adhering to anti-racist practices.
Effective verbal and written communication skills with both children and adults are essential, along with the ability to perform duties in person within a school environment.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time position that offers benefits, with compensation starting at $20 per hour, which may increase based on experience.
