Job Summary

Florida State University is seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing complex control systems, ensuring the smooth operation of our campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting tasks for complex building systems, including variable speed drive replacement, machine-specific controller repair or replacement, air compressor control, boiler controls, heat exchanger maintenance, fume hood maintenance, lab control systems, and chiller control systems.
  • Perform network diagnostics for FLN and BLN Ethernet and other communication systems, and set up TECs and BACNet, P1, ModBus, KNX, and other networks used in control systems.
  • Perform all tasks as described in the Maintenance Technician position description, including basic mechanical, electrical, control, and plumbing tasks.
  • Perform calibrations for sensors, controllers, flow meters, and other measurement devices.
  • Coordinate with Siemens onsite support technicians to identify and repair components causing system faults, and work with the energy engineer and other FSU team members to resolve complex system problems.
  • Complete required safety training and comply with all safety standards, including lockout-tagout, safe handling of refrigerant, confined space safety, safe handling of hazardous chemicals, participation in campus safety teams, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report complex and/or unusual problems to the supervisor and coordinate with other maintenance staff as required to complete complex tasks.
  • Operate mobile equipment and/or campus vehicles, including trucks, golf carts, personnel lifts, and forklifts, and maintain licensure and complete required training.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the duties of this position, or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to two years in the same.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of equipment and machinery used in the area of work.
  • Knowledge of the practices and the ability to perform skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other related trades work.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word), and basic computer functions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Ability to utilize technical skills.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment, and materials used in the area of work.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • A valid State of Florida Class or Georgia driver's license, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
