- Upon completion of the Police Academy, you will be responsible for the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes; maintaining law and order; patrolling assigned areas of the city; enforcing traffic regulations; investigating accidents, crimes against property and persons, and complaints; interviewing victims and witnesses; taking affidavits; apprehending persons suspected of crimes; responding to calls for service; serving warrants; writing various reports; checking buildings and stores for security; testifying in court; and administering first aid.
- Perform other duties as required.
As a Police Officer Trainee, you will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions. You will be exposed to dirt, dust, noise, fumes, odors, heat, cold, rain, humidity, and sudden temperature changes. You will also be frequently exposed to mechanical hazards, traffic hazards, and bodily injuries, and infrequently exposed to chemical, electronic, and fire hazards, explosive and contagious diseases.
Requirements- Ability to deal firmly and courteously with other Police Officers and the public.
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to determine proper course of action to be taken.
- Ability to speak and write the English language effectively.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations.
- Constantly sees and hears, sits, speaks, and drives; frequently stands, walks, kneels, crouches, squats, twists body; pushes, pulls, carries, drags, lifts heavy objects weighing up to 100 lbs., pushes vehicles, and writes by hand; infrequently crawls, climbs, runs, fights, and wrestles.
- Must have normal hearing and vision correctable to 20/20.
- Cadet applicants must have a GED or High School Diploma.
- Applicants with Military service must have an Honorable discharge.
As a Police Officer Trainee with the City of Beaumont, TX, you will be eligible for a competitive salary of $3,000 per month, while enrolled in the academy. You will also be required to enter into a Police Cadet Training Agreement. The City provides employee health insurance, dental insurance for employee and/or dependent(s), and sponsors TMRS Retirement Plan with cost of living increases.
