Position Overview

We are currently seeking a qualified Histology Technician for a local contract opportunity. This role involves performing essential histology and cytology tasks to support laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct histology and cytology procedures, including specimen processing, fixation, embedding, microtomy, and slide preparation.
  • Utilize routine stains, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and special stains in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensure accurate identification of samples, blocks, and slides throughout the process.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents for various histology procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments, adhering to departmental guidelines.
  • Document quality control and assurance measures for all procedures performed.
  • Employ independent judgment and problem-solving skills to maintain high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Address and resolve issues promptly, escalating when necessary.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of two years of relevant histology experience.
  • Completion of an accredited Histo-technology program or an Associate's degree in a related field with one year of histology experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry preferred.
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Histotechnologist (HT) is required.
  • State licensure as applicable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of histology techniques and their relevance to disease processes.
  • Ability to follow established protocols for sample fixation and staining.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in specimen sectioning and slide preparation for microscopic evaluation.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor others in laboratory practices.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
