Job Summary

Kettering Health is seeking a highly skilled Exercise Physiologist to join our Cardiac Wellness and Rehabilitation team. As an Exercise Physiologist, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of exercise programs for patients with cardiovascular conditions.

Responsibilities

Assist Exercise Physiologist II with all aspects of the Sports Acceleration program, including initial assessment, instruction, and implementation of sport-specific training and team training.

Operate all gym equipment and possess computer knowledge to effectively manage patient data and track progress.

Promote the services of sports medicine through public speaking, health fairs, and sporting events, educating patients and the community on the importance of cardiac rehabilitation.

Perform duties that commensurate with national certifications, working in areas where noise levels require raising your voice to be heard, and risk of exposure to infection exists.

Work involves interaction with outpatients, with hours that can be irregular, and responsibility for maintaining patient safety and well-being.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology or Exercise Science is required, with ECG competency and current CPR certification.

Preferred qualifications include ACLS certification, ACSM Exercise Specialist certification, and previous Cardiac Rehabilitation experience.

This position is for phase I/inpatient, Phase 2, and Phase 3/outpatient cardiac rehab, with primary responsibilities including assessing patients for ambulation, assisting with initial ambulation, and reviewing physical activity plans for transitional time prior to enrolling in phase 2 cardiac rehab.

Provides inpatient (Phase I) and outpatient (Phase II and maintenance) cardiac rehabilitation services to a variety of cardiovascular conditions, including patient testing before and after rehabilitation, exercise prescription, and implementation of concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.

May develop and update cardiac rehab participants' Individual Treatment Plans, with competency in blood pressure, lipid, diabetes, smoking cessation, weight management, and psychosocial assessment/plan development/reassessment and symptom evaluation.

Recognizes contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise, responding appropriately to all situations, including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.

Provides information for patients, peers, and the community, including public speaking and education classes, and arranges for initial outpatient cardiac rehab evaluation, recurring outpatient cardiac rehab sessions, and discharge from the program.

Knowledge and Competencies

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision, with a strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work cohesively with a team.

Proficient in Microsoft office products, especially Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint, with the ability to adapt to different room temperatures and follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, with the ability to help patients stand and walk, and some lifting, bending, and twisting of the upper extremity to help limited patients.
