Property Risk Underwriter I

We are seeking a dedicated Property Underwriter to contribute to our Incoming Business Team. This role is situated within our General Property Underwriting division and entails specific responsibilities and qualifications.

As a Property Underwriter, you will serve as the technical authority for the function and the US market. Your duties will include operating within established authority limits on assignments that exhibit a high degree of technical complexity and coordination under broad management oversight. You will evaluate global insurance programs and adapt them to meet US compliance standards. With a solid understanding of US market regulatory requirements, you will liaise with the AXA XL Underwriting Network to issue local US policies based on international guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite, manage, and service a property renewal portfolio and new business in alignment with unit objectives.
  • Utilize independent judgment in assessing and evaluating risk.
  • Negotiate with producing underwriters within the limits of delegated authority to meet profit goals.
  • Engage in discussions regarding risk assessment and provide mentorship to colleagues.
  • Foster and strengthen relationships with brokers and clients while identifying new distribution channels.
  • Maintain expertise in products, services, priorities, and target markets to help clients recognize hidden risks.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and events, leading client and broker meetings to educate on risk.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal and external underwriting standards and legal obligations.
  • Support business planning and forecasting processes; monitor financial exposure and premium income within established limits.
  • Stay informed about all claims reported while contributing to the settlement process.
  • Identify and pursue new product development opportunities.
  • Work under broad management direction at the highest authority limits on technically complex assignments.
  • Address deliverables and problem-solving issues related to policy issuance, regulatory compliance, reporting, and premium payment processes.
  • Possess expert-level technical knowledge and skills, including product and industry insights.
  • Collaborate within a team environment and provide guidance to peers.

Qualifications:
  • Some experience in the relevant class of business.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Basic technical knowledge and skills in the product and industry.
  • Ability to apply business understanding to set direction within the segment.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and sales/marketing skills.
  • Capability to develop and comprehend business processes, strategy, and planning.
  • Knowledge of system functionalities.
  • Excellent work ethic and robust written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Adaptability to changing environments with flexibility and innovation.
  • Exceptional customer service and negotiation skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multitask.
