Job Description:

Summary:

Barr Engineering Company is seeking a senior environmental engineer to lead challenging and progressive projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental engineering and project management, with experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and preparing technical work plans and reports.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments, designing and implementing Phase II investigations, and conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies. They will also develop site management strategies, remedial design, and response action plans, and coordinate site remediation activities.

Responsibilities will also include development of proposals, scopes of work, and budgets, as well as communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or related disciplines

10 or more years of relevant work experience

Strong technical and problem-solving skills

Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets

A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs

Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering Company

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or related disciplines

Registered Professional Engineer

Familiarity with Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) guidance documents

Project management and leadership experience with complex projects

Experience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory and agency personnel

Staff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr Engineering Company office and one's home office. This position can be based out of Barr Engineering Company's Minneapolis, Duluth, or Hibbing, Minnesota offices.

NOTE:

Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.

Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
