Job Summary

This position supports the Maintenance Buildings Department by providing general maintenance and repair services for all buildings within the district. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of general hand and power tool identification and operation, as well as basic understanding of maintenance techniques and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Facility Services Technician/Supervisor with general repairs on all buildings within the district, including masonry, carpentry, locksmith, window glazing, roofing, fence, flooring, cabinetry, and painting.
  • Operate various equipment relevant to repairs and installations, including tools such as jack hammers, electric saws, drills, planers, joiners, table saws, bench grinders, ladders, lifts, scaffolding, etc.
  • Drive van or truck with trailer to work sites as needed to perform repairs and installations throughout the district; maintain the proper parts inventory on the district vehicle to meet assigned maintenance work orders.
  • Restock supplies and tools in vehicle; perform daily vehicle safety check.
Key Job Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of building experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
  • Makes repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within the district.
Work Environment

This position requires a variable work environment, including the Facility Services Complex, school grounds, and all buildings. The employee will be subjected to a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures. May be on call after normal work hours (24 hours a day, seven days a week) and in emergency situations.

Physical Demands

The employee must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one (100) pounds occasionally. Must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs.

As part of the hiring process for this position, a pre-offer/pre-employment physical examination is required. Applicants are responsible for the cost of the examination (up to $300) and will be reimbursed upon successfully passing the examination and hired with Clayton County Public Schools-Facilities Services.
