Job Summary:



The Nursing Assistant plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in a hospital setting. As a key member of the healthcare team, this individual will be responsible for attending to the needs of patients, performing various duties, and working under the direct supervision of the unit charge person.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Complete and report vital signs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Answer telephone calls, record necessary information, and route calls or messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Keep patients' records current and up-to-date.
  • Notify the nurse of any significant changes in patient condition within 5 minutes of identification.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Return all films by the end of the shift.
  • Transport patients as indicated.
  • Obtain x-rays and medical records as necessary.
  • Assist in the chemotherapy area as needed.
  • Ensure that all charts are supplied with appropriate forms for documentation.
  • Relay messages to the appropriate caregiver within 5-10 minutes of receiving the message.
  • Prioritize orders in the order entry system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Post all reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Schedule patients' appointments with the physician's office, other departments, and follow-up.
  • Use computer systems appropriately.
  • Assist others as necessary, always using time constructively.
  • Pre-admit all patients prior to the patient's day of initial consultation.
  • Answer telephone calls properly, screening calls, pulling charts, and relaying messages to appropriate staff in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize priorities and deal with them appropriately.
  • Order entry for radiology and laboratory procedures.
  • Collect co-pays and take monies to the appropriate area.


Requirements:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Nurse Assistant in a hospital setting preferred.
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA) preferred upon hire, and required within 30 days of hire.
