Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate, operate, and deactivate machinery while ensuring compliance with quality and Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSS&E) standards.
  • Manage production processes and material handling systems, utilizing computer controls when necessary.
  • Monitor system outputs through various indicators, including charts, gauges, and computer displays.
  • Adjust and control rates to maintain balance across related process systems, such as air, gas, and speed.
  • Conduct quality assurance tests on process samples to ensure product excellence.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of furnaces, dissolving units, and associated equipment, including pumps and motors.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the entire process, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency protocols. The role may require lifting up to 40 pounds and involves standing or walking with occasional climbing. Visual acuity is essential.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and rapid decision-making skills in response to operational challenges and unexpected situations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to best practices.
  • Ensure environmental compliance of the facility as mandated by permits and regulations, including the proper handling of hazardous waste.
  • Participate in self-directed Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate issues, instructions, and observations to team members and other departments, both orally and in writing.
  • Operate the liquid sodium silicate plant, adhering to SOPs and responding to system alarms with appropriate corrective actions.
  • Utilize statistical process control to manage processes, including:
    • Sampling and conducting necessary tests.
    • Setting up and plotting data on control charts.
  • Diagnose process issues and implement necessary actions.
  • Perform key coordination duties during emergency situations, collaborating with emergency services as needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all production operations and equipment, fulfilling various additional duties as required.
  • Conduct quality control tests in accordance with SOPs, including:
    • Product Baume'
    • Product % Na2O
    • Product Ratio
  • Document process issues, instructions, and observations through established systems, including:
    • Production data sheets
    • SPC charts, etc.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs as necessary, utilizing available tools while considering individual skills and training.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and commercial operating software.

Environmental, Health, and Safety Responsibilities:
Promote and exemplify safety and health as the top priority, participate in risk assessment audits as applicable, and understand PQ Principles (PQP) and their implementation within the organization. Complete all required HSE training in a timely manner.
