Job Summary:

The Director of Accounting and Finance at Cape Cod Hospital is responsible for managing the general accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, and internal and external reporting. This role requires a strong leader who can direct the accounting and financial reporting function of the hospital, coordinate and oversee the management of general accounting functions, and maintain data accuracy and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the VP of Finance and Treasurer in directing the accounting and financial reporting function of the hospital.
  • Coordinate and oversee the management of general accounting functions and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain data accuracy and integrity for all hospital entities.
  • Manage cash disbursements and intercompany transfers of all hospital affiliates.
  • Promote cooperation and develop lines of communication with persons inside and outside the hospital.
  • Select and hire professional-level staff and provide training.
  • Evaluate and initiate personnel activities.
  • Maintain fiscal control over hospital expenditures.
  • Install and maintain computerized general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and fixed asset systems.
  • Evaluate existing procedures to ensure efficient and effective department operations.
  • Oversee preparation and review of internal and external reporting.
  • Work with the outside auditing firm and affiliates to ensure a successful year-end audit.
  • Maintain accounting for CHICO financial results into the Consolidated Financial statements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA and/or Master's in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
  • Experience in GAAP accounting.
  • 7-10 years related experience, preferably in an acute care hospital/healthcare organization.
  • Experience with relational databases and large ERP systems - experience with PeopleSoft highly desirable.
  • Advance proficiency with MS Office applications and related accounting and finance software programs.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Previous experience supervising staff with the ability to coach, motivate, and engage employees in a finance function.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, busy environment.
  • Ability to use sound judgment to effectively solve problems within the scope of the position.
