Position Overview
The Animal Care Technician plays a vital role in supporting veterinarians and senior technicians in delivering high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include monitoring hospitalized animals, managing inventory, preparing medications, conducting routine laboratory tests, educating pet owners about veterinary practices, and assisting in surgical procedures.

- Team Collaboration: Effectively coordinating with veterinarians and team members, providing timely feedback, and integrating suggestions to achieve positive outcomes.
- Effective Communication: Clearly conveying instructions to clients and colleagues to facilitate successful patient care.
- Active Listening: Following the guidance of veterinarians and understanding the needs of clients and team members based on previous experiences.
- Organizational Skills: Meticulously tracking lab samples, medications, patient instructions, and workflows while managing multiple responsibilities.
- Client Engagement: Ensuring all interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.
- Assist veterinarians in the delivery of veterinary medicine and surgical procedures as required.
- Support veterinarians during outpatient consultations by gathering medical histories, vital signs, and weights, along with providing client education.
- Prepare animals for surgical procedures and monitor their vital signs throughout.
- Collect blood, stool, and other samples; conduct in-house laboratory tests and prepare specimens for external labs.
- Take and process radiographs while adhering to safety protocols.
- Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during examinations.
- Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam rooms, treatment areas, and laboratories; restock supplies as needed.
- Exhibit warmth, courtesy, and professionalism in all client interactions, demonstrating compassion for patients.
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians and team members regarding client discussions, patient plans, and concerns.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
- Prior experience in a veterinary setting is preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and patients weighing up to 25 pounds; capability to lift heavier weights with assistance.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety practices, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills for calculating medication dosages.
- Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office applications.
- Strong communication skills to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
