Job SummaryAs an OB Technician at Advocate Health, you will play a vital role in supporting obstetrical procedures and providing exceptional patient care. Your responsibilities will include assisting with cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, and other obstetrical procedures, maintaining knowledge of setups for each procedure, and scrubbing for obstetrical procedures using aseptic surgical techniques. You will also assist with delivery procedures, prepare areas in accordance with obstetric provider preference, and participate in direct patient care activities. Additionally, you will serve as a resource for training technicians, RN staff, and others in the use of equipment and procedures, maintain stock of sterile, surgical supplies and instruments, and maintain the unit area in readiness for all types of emergencies.
Responsibilities
• Assist with obstetrical procedures, including cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, and other obstetrical procedures
• Maintain knowledge of setups for each procedure
• Scrub for obstetrical procedures using aseptic surgical techniques
• Assist with delivery procedures
• Participate in direct patient care activities
• Serve as a resource for training technicians, RN staff, and others in the use of equipment and procedures
• Maintain stock of sterile, surgical supplies and instruments
• Maintain the unit area in readiness for all types of emergencies
Requirements
• Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
• Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant
Preferred Qualifications
• Basic computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems
• Successfully complete on the job training
• Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Ability to develop rapport and maintain positive relationships with a variety of patients, family, staff, and physicians
• Good organizational and prioritization skills
• Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions
Working Conditions
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present, push or pull 100 lbs.
• Will be required to use foot pedals on carts and machines
• Will be required to wear protective clothing
• Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuing basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift
• Must have functional sight and hearing
• Operate all equipment necessary to perform job
