Job Title: Operations Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Operations Engineer to join our team at Hawaiian Electric Company. As an Operations Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our power system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform operational planning studies of existing generation, transmission, and distribution system assets to ensure high service reliability and operational safety.
  • Investigate and evaluate abnormal voltages, equipment loading, and overload capabilities, and initiate corrective action as needed.
  • Provide operational input in performing and reviewing future generation, transmission, and distribution asset proposals and planning studies.
  • Prepare generating unit operating schedules to meet forecasted peaks with adequate operating reserves and meet operating restrictions.
  • Track daily system demand, analyze trends, and forecast system peaks.
  • Obtain and evaluate the status of operating capabilities, limitations, and outages of all generating units, and prepare daily capacity and equipment outage reports.
  • Provide generation and system information required by the City, State, and Federal Agencies.
  • Support the planning and integration of renewable energy resources into existing and/or new generation equipment.
  • Develop solutions to grid management and control tool issues.
  • Manage growth of distributed energy resources through the assessment of impacts to the electrical system and development of solutions to maintain grid stability and safety.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BSME) with emphasis in power engineering or equivalent required.
  • Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Hawaii.
  • Extensive (8+) years of experience in one or more of the following areas: design or operations of utility generation or T&D systems, experience in power generation engineering and design, experience in system operations.
