Job Summary

RxSight, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist to lead the development of silicone-based formulations for adjustable lens technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for advancing understanding and characterization techniques of silicone raw materials, as well as synthesizing new materials for the next generation of the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL).

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulation Characterization and Optimization: Design, development, and extensive characterization of silicone-based polymer resins to enhance the scale and quality of the LAL.
  • Material Selection and Analysis: Optimization of silicone material selection process to improve the performance of the LAL, including analysis of silicone raw materials, intermediate formulation mixes, and final formulations using various characterization techniques.
  • Synthesis and Development: Synthesis of silicone-based and silicone-containing monomers and polymers utilizing various polymerization techniques, as well as development of new materials for the next generation of the LAL.
Requirements
  • Strong Background in Polymer Chemistry/Organic Materials Science: A must-have for this role, with a strong understanding of polymeric materials characterization techniques, including GPC, NMR, optical and thermal analysis.
  • Proficiency in Polymer Microscopy: Experience with formulation development and optimization, as well as proficiency in polymer microscopy, including SEM, TEM, AFM, and STM.
  • Formulation Development and Optimization: Strong background in formulation development and optimization, with experience in developing and characterizing silicone-based formulations.
  • General Familiarity with Molecular Simulation Tools and Polymer Analytics: General familiarity with molecular simulation tools and polymer analytics, with the ability to apply creative solutions to challenges.
Education, Experience, and Training
  • Ph.D. or Master's Degree in Materials Science (Soft Materials), Polymer Chemistry, or Polymer Engineering: A Ph.D. or Master's degree in a relevant field is required, with a strong background in polymer chemistry and materials science.
  • 3-5 Years of Relevant Work Experience and/or Training: 3-5 years of relevant work experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong Preference for Medical Devices Industry Experience: A strong preference for experience in the medical devices industry, where polymer chemistry is a critical element in product development.
