CDL A Driver Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CDL A Driver Lead to join our team at Scholastic Book Fairs in Charlotte, NC. This is a full-time position that requires not only driving skills but also leadership and coordination abilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Safety: Ensure daily shift safety activities are performed by CDL drivers, including driver stretching and pre/post-trip truck inspections. Assist in investigating driver accidents and injuries, and partner with the Branch Manager on accountability requirements.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of all drivers to ensure maximum productivity and performance levels are maintained, and all driver procedures are followed.
- Dispatching and Scheduling: Work with the Branch Manager and Warehouse Supervisor to coordinate dispatching of CDL drivers for scheduled deliveries and pick-ups using the Oracle Transportation Management system.
- Communication and Coordination: Communicate with National Transportation Specialists to implement approved schedule changes, and coordinate changes within the branch to ensure all deliveries and pick-ups occur.
- Peak Planning: Plan for peak needs by utilizing information provided by NTS and the Branch Manager, and serve as a liaison with truck rental companies and temp driver companies to reserve and return rental trucks as needed.
- Fleet Maintenance: Monitor fleet reports to ensure all PMs and repairs are performed as scheduled.
- Emergency Response: Work with the Branch Manager and NTS to implement emergency schedule changes due to unforeseen events such as accidents, injuries, breakdowns, and late routes.
- Training and Development: Train CDL drivers in company procedures, including safety precautions, uniform wear, and delivery presentation to customers.
- Documentation and Accuracy: Review trip sheets, fuel tickets, road expenses, and driver DOT log books for accuracy, and provide feedback to drivers to promote improved accuracy and completeness of documents.
- Additional Responsibilities: Assist with loading/unloading trucks and other warehouse tasks as required, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
- Verifiable commercial driving experience of at least one year required.
- Minimum of twenty-one years of age.
- Possess valid CDL license with air brake endorsement (Class A).
- Previous lead role or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Must pass a drug screen/alcohol screen, Motor Vehicle Record review, criminal background review, and a DOT physical examination indicating physical essential functions of the job can be performed as required.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 70 lbs., push and pull aluminum cases weighing more than 350 lbs. on a regular and repetitive basis.
- Customer service orientated.
- Ability to operate a truck onboard computer, a personal computer, and follow GPS directions.
- Ability to work over time and weekends as needed.
- Strong team player and the ability to get along with co-workers.
- Good verbal/written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to read.
