Job Overview

Position Summary:

Swift Straw is in search of a reliable and skilled full-time Class A CDL operator to facilitate the transportation of pine straw across our operational network. This role will be stationed at Swift Straw's Clio AL facility. As a Truck Operator, your primary responsibility will be to transport pine straw utilizing van trailers between various supply points and clients throughout Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. The ideal candidate will possess substantial backing experience and will report to the logistics team in Alabama, supported by a dedicated dispatcher. This position operates during the day, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of weekend assignments. The advantage of this role is the ability to return home each evening.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive at work punctually and maintain reliability in pick-ups and deliveries, ensuring consistent service.
  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections of all trailers, upholding the highest safety and efficiency standards.
  • Keep precise driver logs and exhibit proficiency with ELD systems.
  • Assist in loading and unloading trailers as required.
  • Report any safety issues and strictly follow DOT regulations concerning safe driving practices, vehicle inspections, and maintenance.
  • Efficiently transport pine straw within designated service areas, contributing to the overall success of operations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, showcasing professionalism, energy, and self-motivation.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and adjust driving practices during adverse weather conditions, prioritizing safety.
  • Effectively utilize GPS and other routing technologies to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Comply with all company policies and safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of recent Class A driving experience.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and self-motivated approach, consistently reflecting Swift Straw's Core Values.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in safe and defensive driving techniques.
  • Possess excellent communication abilities.
  • Have a solid understanding of the local and regional areas served.
  • Hold a valid commercial driver's license along with a current medical card/physical.
  • Capability to bend, kneel, twist, squat, stand, and climb as necessary.
  • Successfully complete a company-sponsored pre-hire drug screening.
