About the Position

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Minnesota is seeking qualified candidates to teach courses in Spanish and Portuguese. As a teaching specialist or lecturer, you will have the opportunity to work with students at various levels, from introductory language courses to literature and culture courses.

Responsibilities
  • Teach 1-3 courses per semester, including introductory language courses and literature and culture courses as needed
  • Prepare and deliver course materials, including lectures, assignments, and exams
  • Hold office hours and provide support to students
  • Administer proficiency tests and provide other administrative assistance as needed
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Spanish or Portuguese or a related field in Education, the Humanities, or Social Sciences for appointment as Teaching Specialist
  • Ph.D. degree in Spanish or Portuguese or a related field in Education, the Humanities, or Social Sciences for appointment as Lecturer
  • Native or near-native fluency in the language(s) of instruction
  • Two years post-secondary teaching experience in the relevant language or related field
  • Demonstration of commitment to quality teaching and program development
  • Strong English language communication skills
