Job Overview

We are seeking a Principal Design Engineer in Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) to join our team. This role is pivotal in delivering technical expertise and administrative oversight in various project phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to engineering teams under the supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer.
  • Evaluate complex technical challenges and propose independent solutions aligned with project specifications.
  • Draft and assess specifications and design criteria for engineering projects.
  • Conduct engineering analyses and calculations, ensuring the selection of appropriate materials and systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, project management, vendors, and clients to resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with the Project Quality Plan and established procedures.
  • Manage project scope, budget, and timelines effectively.
  • Prepare and review project estimates, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Oversee procurement activities, including technical evaluations and vendor submissions.
  • Support construction administration by addressing requests for information and field modifications.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Essential Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of fifteen years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer license is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local codes and standards.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with diverse stakeholders.
  • In-depth technical knowledge pertinent to the role.
  • Advanced understanding of discipline-specific codes and standards.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under time constraints.
  • Proficient in standard software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Extensive experience in providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for large-scale industrial projects.
  • Expertise in executing large EPC projects using engineering analysis and design automation tools.
Discipline-Specific Requirements
  • Conduct a wide range of I&C design tasks, including control systems architecture, PLC, DCS, and process controls.
  • Perform sizing calculations for various instrumentation components.
  • Create instrument indices and datasheets, and oversee design wiring and loop development.
  • Develop detailed control systems specifications and logic diagrams.
  • Participate in model reviews and monitor 3D modeling efforts.
  • Review specifications for DCS, PLC, and SIS applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of material costs and availability.
  • Experience in designing systems for nuclear facilities under ASME NQA-1 standards.
  • Proven track record in managing large projects.
  • Experience with project setup, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Practical field experience is advantageous.
Industry Experience

Experience in EPC projects for:

  • U.S. Department of Energy or other federal agencies.
  • Nuclear facilities adhering to quality assurance protocols.
  • Manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology sectors.
