This role requires expertise in Wireless Systems, particularly in Cellular systems, and necessitates close collaboration with cross-functional hardware and software teams.
We are in search of a dedicated, highly motivated, and self-sufficient engineer to work on the L1/PHY layer of groundbreaking wireless technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
We seek engineers who are driven to challenge the limits of what is possible to develop the next generation of exceptional Apple products.
Engineers with experience in cellular systems and/or firmware development will be integral to an innovative team working on the L1/PHY layer of 4G/5G modems used in a variety of Apple products.
Your role will involve identifying and developing core cellular technologies that address everyday challenges for customers utilizing Apple wireless product lines, including wearables. This includes a focus on identifying innovative solutions based on use cases that enhance user experience.
The ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the modem stack is essential, and a natural inclination to integrate vertically with new use cases and applications is expected. Finally, delivering precise implementations while supporting comprehensive system validation of these solutions is a requirement.
Essential Qualifications:
Proven understanding of wireless communication, information theory, signal processing, and 3GPP Standards (Physical Layer LTE and NR specifications). Experience in embedded cellular firmware/software programming, along with a solid grasp of communication systems algorithms.
Familiarity with cellular communication protocols (Low-Power, Low Latency, High Reliability). A deep understanding of software engineering principles and core computer science fundamentals. Good experience with memory-constrained Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and concurrent programming.
Working knowledge of potential cellular modem L1/PHY architectures, emphasizing the hardware/software partitions of communication subsystems, including inter-module interfaces. Experience with 4G/5G Modem L1 Control covering PHY procedures and data path timelines, from RF transceiver to higher layer protocol stacks.
Excellent skills in low-level programming using C, C++, and assembler, along with proficiency in embedded systems and resource management. Experience with software prototyping of solutions using unit tests/virtual platforms. Proficiency in debugging embedded software systems through various methods, including log analysis and using test equipment.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field is required. A Master's or PhD Degree is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
At Apple, base pay is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package, determined within a range that allows for growth as you develop in your role.
The base pay range for this position is between $135,400 and $250,600, with your specific base pay dependent on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.Employees are also eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
