We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Food Runner to join our team at Rustic Root, a premier restaurant in downtown San Diego. As a Food Runner, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our guests have a high-quality dining experience by serving their food in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with our servers to create a great energy and atmosphere in the dining room.
  • Greet each guest with a good attitude and a smile, setting the tone for a positive dining experience.
  • Take out trash and keep the restaurant clean and organized, free of dirty plates and glassware.
  • Run food to tables and ensure that guests are receiving their correct order.
  • Handle food in a timely manner to ensure optimal food temperature.
  • Have a great understanding of the menu and what is in each dish.
  • Fill water glasses when necessary.
  • Clear empty food plates when guests are finished.
  • Wipe down and sanitize tables when guests are done eating.
  • Keep the restaurant stocked with adequate supplies, such as plates, napkins, silverware, and glasses.
  • Help with dishes when we are backed up.
Requirements
  • Possess excellent communication skills.

  • Must be able to provide legible communication.

Education and Certifications
  • Must have one or more of the following: minimum of 1+ years bar backing experience required in fine dining or upscale restaurant, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • San Diego County Food Handlers Card (must be turned in within 30 days of employment).
  • Anti-harassment and nondiscrimination 1-hour class.
  • RBS - Responsible Alcohol Service (must be turned in when training concludes).
Physical Requirements
  • Professional, articulate, friendly, and punctual.
  • Possesses and exhibits the drive to provide exceptional service.
  • Full-time flexible hours are required (able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Must be able to stand/walk for 8 hours; bend, push, pull; lift 30 lbs.
  • Proficient in computer skills including POS systems and iPad applications.
  • Professional appearance appropriate for a premier restaurant.
  • Must be able to sit for up to 8 hours at a time.
  • Ability to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
