The starting salary range for this role is $52,159 - $59,984, with the initial offer based on qualifications and relevant experience.
The Reentry Specialist plays a crucial role in guiding and supporting paroled students at the Huntsville Center/Lee College (HCLC) in their transition journey. This includes assistance with enrollment in post-secondary education and job placement services. The specialist will also collaborate with external organizations to help students address essential needs such as housing.
Key Responsibilities- Engage with diverse and underserved communities.
- Build and maintain partnerships with businesses and industries to create a robust job placement network for paroled students.
- Collaborate with community colleges, job training facilities, and local workforce boards to facilitate workforce training and job placement for HCLC students.
- In partnership with industry stakeholders, design and implement a range of internships, on-the-job training, apprenticeships, and other experiential learning opportunities tailored for transitioning students.
- Establish connections with local social services, faith-based groups, and private organizations to provide essential resources for students in transition.
- Support the Director in mentoring initiatives for paroled students.
- Work alongside Huntsville Center staff to enhance comprehensive support services for all students, ensuring the unique needs of minority and underserved populations are addressed.
- Assist the Director with data analysis as required.
- Participate in special events and activities during evenings and weekends.
- Help organize and facilitate employer networking meetings.
- Support the Director in alumni outreach through various communication channels and events.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of the Reentry Course for students.
- Track and report on performance metrics and deliverables to the Director quarterly, including alumni job placements and referrals, while making data-driven recommendations for program enhancements.
- Research resources related to reentry, including employers open to hiring individuals with felony backgrounds, educational programs, and mentorship opportunities.
- Respond to student inquiries.
- Assist the Director in creating and distributing promotional materials.
- Support the Director in achieving goals related to Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning.
- Contribute to various Reentry Services projects as directed.
- Foster effective collaboration with both internal and external partners.
- Develop and sustain key relationships with college staff and community resources.
- Network with transfer institutions to streamline services for students.
- Engage in professional development and training as necessary.
- Travel as needed for conferences, job fairs, employer visits, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, preferably in Social Work or Higher Education Advising/Counseling.
- A minimum of three years of experience working with offenders or similar populations.
- At least three years of experience in higher education, particularly concerning transfer and articulation issues, as well as low-income and first-generation college students.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- A positive attitude and the capacity to motivate and empower students.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software, along with strong internet navigation skills.
- Experience with student information systems, such as PeopleSoft, is preferred.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Willingness to travel frequently between various work sites and for professional development.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is mandatory.
