Job Summary

The Division Manager is a key role in the Commonwealth of Virginia's court system, responsible for managing the operational and administrative aspects of one or more court divisions. This position requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of one or more court divisions, including supervising staff and ensuring compliance with court policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Clerk and Judges with short and long-range planning, problem resolution, and coaching and counseling.
  • Have the authority to sign and issue routine court documents, such as warrants, capiases, summonses, and subpoenas.
  • Work under the direction of the Clerk of Court from established judicial and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Handle complex and sensitive problems with appropriate judgment, discretion, and tact.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in a court setting, specifically civil court division processes.
  • Experience with warrants, summons, dockets, garnishments, warrant in debit, interrogatories, writs, notice of satisfactions, protective orders, DMV, document imaging, and other related court processes.
  • Proficiency with computer responsibilities, including GCMS, Financial Management (FMS), Outlook, VCIN, NCIC, GDIS, DMV, and IPOAD (as applicable).
  • Ability to conduct minor computer troubleshooting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as experience with high-volume customer service.
  • Applicable experience in cash handling, receipting, and a high level of math acuity.
  • Experience managing work teams, delegating work assignments, and processing time-sensitive documents.
  • A high school degree or equivalent is required, with a college degree ideal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience managing court staff.
  • Proven ability and history of staff training in court procedures.
  • Advanced customer service experience dealing with the public, external agencies, attorney firms, and other courts.
  • Managerial candidates must have measurable hands-on experience managing a team.
