Position Summary

The General Laborer plays a crucial role in supporting various construction activities, including highway, utility, and grading operations. This position requires a range of manual tasks performed under the guidance of a supervisor, ensuring safety and efficiency on the job site.

Key Responsibilities

Highway Laborer:

  • Prepare ground surfaces for construction by removing debris.
  • Operate compactors and level dirt for paving.
  • Set up safety barriers and markers as required.
  • Assist in preparing manhole covers and water lines.
  • Shovel and rake asphalt during application.
  • Maintain cleanliness of tools and equipment post-work.
  • Support equipment operation when trained.
  • Perform additional labor tasks as necessary.

Utility Laborer:

  • Excavate trenches for utility lines using hand tools.
  • Assist in the installation of pipes and shoring materials.
  • Guide pipes into position for heavy equipment operators.
  • Connect pipes using various tools and materials.
  • Utilize laser levels for precise installations.
  • Operate construction equipment when qualified.

Grade Laborer:

  • Utilize hand tools for groundwork tasks.
  • Assist in cutting concrete for grading purposes.
  • Replace sewer and manhole covers as needed.
  • Support grading operations as directed.
  • Perform other labor duties as assigned.

Crusher Laborer:

  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on machinery.
  • Clear blockages from conveyors and screens.
  • Set up and dismantle crusher machinery as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the machinery area.
  • Operate equipment to manage excess materials.

Plant Laborer:

  • Participate in safety meetings and ensure efficient plant operations.
  • Stockpile materials and maintain equipment.
  • Assist in plant maintenance and repairs.
  • Operate heavy machinery as needed.

Additional Duties:

  • Utilize various tools and equipment safely.
  • Assist with job site clean-up and traffic control.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good condition.
Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties effectively. Key qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience in construction is advantageous.

Work Requirements:

  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Capability to work collaboratively with others.

Physical Requirements:

This role involves physical activities such as lifting, climbing, and operating equipment. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50-75 lbs and work in various weather conditions.
