POSITION SUMMARY:
The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare providers in delivering quality medical services to patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare the medical facility for daily operations; ensure a safe, clean, and organized environment by adhering to established protocols and regulations.
Welcome and guide patients to examination rooms, update medical histories, take vital signs, and document information in preparation for consultations.
Support healthcare providers during routine check-ups, minor surgical interventions, and other medical services as required; administer vaccinations, draw blood, conduct electrocardiograms, and perform laboratory tests as directed.
Coordinate patient testing as necessary; prepare and transmit requested medical documentation as needed.Engage with patients through phone and other communication methods to confirm appointments and provide relevant information.
Ensure timely patient follow-ups with documentation within 72 hours.
Assist healthcare providers in managing outstanding claims and encounters in preparation for monthly financial reconciliations.
Update electronic health records accurately.Support providers with documentation from patient assessments in the electronic medical record system, including coding and conversions.
Input quality measures for Medicare Annual Wellness Visits into the designated system as required for accountable care organizations.
Monitor patient flow and provider schedules to ensure a positive experience for patients.
Deliver patient education as appropriate to enhance understanding of their health.
Safeguard patients and staff by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
Regularly clean and sterilize medical instruments in accordance with infection control standards.
Ensure the functionality of medical equipment by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and managing equipment inventories.
Assist in maintaining medical supply inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, placing orders when authorized, and verifying receipt of supplies.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:May assist at the front desk, in medical records, and other areas as required.
Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Close coordination with others is essential for this role. Teamwork is vital.Participate in community activities as a representative of Bucksport Family Medicine.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands for tasks such as operating a standard computer keyboard, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally; prolonged standing is often necessary.
Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination are required.The employee must regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, including assisting with patient mobility, and may need to bend, stoop, stretch, or crouch.
Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily conducted in a typical healthcare office environment. Noise levels are generally quiet.

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
A recognized certificate from an accredited educational institution for Medical Assistants or Certified Nursing Aides, or equivalent education and work experience, is required.
