Job Summary

This position performs routine maintenance and repair tasks for the National Park Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, requiring the use of various trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment, and related utilities.
  • Perform minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools.
  • Perform painting projects using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as faucet replacement and drain cleaning/repair.
  • Perform restroom repair/cleaning services.
  • Perform snow removal activities on public access locations.
  • Perform building cleaning activities.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • May be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of official duties.
Qualifications
  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprints reading).
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
  • Knowledge of materials.
  • Technical practices (theoretical precise, artistic).
  • Use of measuring instruments.
Working Conditions

Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. May be required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
