Position Overview:
As an Inclusive Education Specialist, you will play a crucial role in fostering an educational environment that accommodates the diverse needs of students. Your primary responsibilities will include the development and execution of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement IEPs that effectively address the individual learning profiles of students.
2. Deliver tailored instruction that considers various learning modalities and capabilities.
3. Utilize research-based teaching methodologies and resources to boost student engagement and learning outcomes.
4. Conduct both formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
5. Regularly track and document student advancements towards IEP objectives, making instructional adjustments as needed.
6. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates and reports on student progress.
7. Create and sustain a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere that supports all learners.
8. Employ effective behavior management techniques to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
9. Cultivate a classroom culture that promotes respect, collaboration, and mutual support among students.
10. Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to deliver comprehensive student support.
11. Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and relevant school gatherings to discuss student progress and needs.
12. Maintain open lines of communication with parents, guardians, and colleagues to facilitate student success.
13. Engage in continuous professional development to remain informed about best practices in special education and instructional techniques.
14. Attend school-wide training and professional development sessions.
15. Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education.
16. Keep accurate and comprehensive records of student progress, IEP implementation, and necessary documentation.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
2. Valid Illinois teaching license with certification in Special Education.
3. Proven experience working with students with diverse learning needs, ideally in an urban educational setting.
4. Strong understanding of special education legislation, IEP formulation, and instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
5. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
6. Capacity to work both collaboratively within a team and independently.
