SUMMARY

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Sociology Educator is responsible for the planning, development, delivery, and assessment of assigned courses, whether conducted during the day or evening. This role includes evaluating student performance and serving as an academic advisor. The educator is also tasked with maintaining accurate student records and submitting necessary reports promptly. The position reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Instructing students in Sociology, utilizing seated, online, or hybrid formats.
- Maintaining accurate student records and submitting required reports.
- Creating and managing course syllabi to ensure compliance with departmental and institutional standards.
- Designing and delivering lectures, facilitating in-class discussions, and assigning coursework.
- Evaluating student submissions, including papers, quizzes, and examinations.
- Assessing student performance based on participation, class engagement, assignments, and tests.
- Reporting on student learning outcomes and analyzing academic data.
- Collaborating with colleagues to enhance course curriculum.
- Providing guidance to students to support their academic success.
- Staying informed about innovations and changes in the field.
- Acquiring necessary technological competencies relevant to the position.
- Ensuring the security of personal computer access.
- Performing additional professional duties as assigned.
- Participating in college committees as directed by supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential duties satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Skills
Required: A Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Sociology or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in a relevant field. Strong communication skills are essential.
Preferred: A Master's degree in Sociology. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Experience
Preferred: Some teaching experience at the community college level and familiarity with distance learning methodologies.
