Cumberland Medical Center is a 189-bed facility located in Crossville, Tennessee, employing more than 650 staff members and hosting 175 active physicians.

We provide a comprehensive array of specialty services, including cardiology, gastroenterology, surgical care, orthopedics, maternity services, cancer treatment, and advanced wound care.

Emergency Department: 24 emergency beds

Intensive Care Unit (ICU): 12 ICU beds

Labor & Delivery: 12 LDRP suites

Med/Surg: 37 beds

Position Summary:


The individual in this role must demonstrate advanced capabilities in the following areas: collection and appropriate handling of venous and capillary specimens; timely and courteous registration of outpatients; accurate registration of patients, lab contracts, and specimens; and preparation, verification, and implementation of charting for Laboratory, Pathology, and Imaging reports as necessary.

The candidate must be able to fulfill the responsibilities of a Lab Assistant.

Responsibilities:
Facilitates the orientation and training of new and existing staff members.

Accountable for the care, maintenance, troubleshooting, and notification of the Manager regarding equipment that requires repair or replacement (e.g., laser printers, line printers, fax machines, copying machines, etc.).

Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies by monitoring and ordering through the Matkon system as needed.


Conducts daily quality reviews of written physician's orders to identify errors in test orders, diagnoses, physician names, insurance coverage, etc., and ensures timely correction of any discrepancies.

Occasionally collects co-payments/deposits, generates receipts for payers, and reconciles cash/credit card transactions daily.

Responsible for the generation, verification, submission, and posting of contract billing.

Assists in the implementation and evaluation of new initiatives, including the development of policies and procedures.

Transcribes reference lab results.

Responsible for checking and following up on incomplete reference lab reports.

Local travel may be required.

Adheres to policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required educational assignments annually. Works towards achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:


No specific education required; any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential tasks of the position, typically equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.

Preference may be given to candidates with a high school diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience:
Basic computer skills, familiarity with medical terminology, registration, and phlebotomy skills or an equivalent combination of clinical and clerical skills.

Licensure Requirement:
Certification by NCA, ASCP, or a comparable institution is preferred. A valid Tennessee driver's license Class D and state-mandated minimum insurance coverage are required. The driving record must meet Covenant Health's minimum standards at the time of hire and throughout employment.
